On October 24th, the preschool students of WPES visited Holly Forks Pumpkin Patch. Students, teachers, and families enjoyed a hay ride, picking out pumpkins, playing on the playground, learning about how pumpkins grow, and enjoying a picnic lunch. It was a beautiful day with our youngest Pointers!
The West Point Volunteer Fire Department visited WPMSHS today. Students in grades 6-9 had an opportunity to tour the fire truck and learn more about emergency and fire service careers. We appreciate this community partnership!

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) uses the Unified Virginia Quality Birth to Five System (VQB5) to measure the quality of early learning experiences for children. Our current quality rating is based on performance during the 2023-2024 school year. VQB5 ratings are based on two nationally recognized quality indicators:
Interactions: The quality of interactions between teachers and children is measured using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS).
Curriculum: The use of a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with Virginia's Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS).

This week is National School Bus Safety Week! We want to share some important safety tips with students:
🚌Always stand back from the curb and line up when waiting for the bus
🚌Stay seated while the bus is in motion
🚌Keep bags and belongings under the seat or on your lap
🚌Keep your volume down and avoid loud noises that can distract the driver
🚌Always follow the driver’s instructions

Cannon Country 107.9 and Blessing and Blooms Florist are doing a monthly floral giveaway to show love and support in our community by accepting teacher nominations of those who deserve a special thank you for what they do. This is the first month they are doing this, and WPES teacher Kathryn Bland was selected. The florist from Blessing and Blooms came to the school to present her with flowers. This is a great testament to how much her students and families appreciate her!
Mrs. Tate created two observation tanks for students to learn about Chesapeake Bay species. All species were obtained with a permit through the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. Our students observed the female Chesapeake Blue Crab, affectionately named Blueberry, molted overnight. Students monitored the process yesterday and this morning, she was fully out of her shell and twice as big!
