One of only two school divisions in the Commonwealth of Virginia

We are pleased that West Point PublicSchools has been recognized by the Virginia Board of Education as one ofonly two school divisions in the state to receive the HighlyDistinguished Title I School Division designation. This recognitiondemonstrates the ongoing commitment of staff, parents, students andcommunity members to the academic success of all students.

Although the Standards of Learning andthe assessments are far more rigorous, we are pleased that our studentscontinue to achieve at these higher levels. As a school division, wehave developed an evidence-based instructional model that challenges andsupports students in meeting and exceeding high academic standards andexpectations equally matched by exceptional instructional delivery.

This is the third consecutive year West Point Public Schools has earned this prestigious honor.

2012 Blue Ribbon Exemplary High Performing School Award
National Blue Ribbon Award

It is my pleasure to inform members ofthe West Point Pointer Family that West Point High School receivednotification that the school is the recipient of the National BlueRibbon Award. The U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, announcedthe 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools. The National Blue Ribbon Schoolprogram recognizes public and private schools for outstanding studentachievement. The program is designed to highlight best practices ineducational leadership and teaching. The Virginia Department ofEducation nominated West Point High School as one of only two highschools in Virginia for the 2012 award. West Point High School was oneof only 269 schools to receive this award, out of more than 100,000 U.S.schools. Since 1982, the U.S. Department of Education has soughtschools in which students meet and/or exceed rigorous academicachievement goals. The National Blue Ribbon Award is the result ofexemplary student achievement and the hard work of a dedicated andtalented staff. This is a return on our community's investment in thestudents of West Point Public Schools and the emphasis placed on aquality education for all students.
