The last Friday 15s of the year focused on a highly requested topic: car maintenance! 11th grade students rotated through interactive stations with Ms. Rush, Coach Wilson, Officer Schramm, and Mrs. Lohr. They learned how to check the oil and tire pressure, use jumper cables, and put together an emergency kit for their vehicle. Fun was had by all!

Ecology students have finished a long 4 week project building EcoColumns and maintaining them. The project focused on teaching high school ecology students about the importance of preserving and protecting the environment, and how to do so through the use of EcoColumns. EcoColumns are self-contained ecosystems that allow students to observe the interactions between living and nonliving components of an environment. Through this hands-on experience, students were able to gain a better understanding of the complexity of ecosystems and the importance of preserving them. Money for the project was largely and generously funded by a grant from the Three Rivers Soil & Water Conservation District (https://www.trswcd.org/). We were fortunate enough to have some materials donated from various people. Photos show students starting the project and all through the process to finally adding their fish at the end.

One Friday last month, the WPES gym was transformed into a Career Wax Museum! Our 5th graders had the opportunity to present about a career that interested them. Each 5th grade student completed an interest survey and researched various careers that aligned with their unique talents. Our 4th and 3rd graders were able to come and listen to the 5th graders present and learn about different careers in a fun and engaging way!

Students in Mrs. Gowers’ first grade use what they have learned about balance scales to measure different, everyday items in the classroom. Teams had to work together to count and balance the scales! Teamwork makes learning fun!
